CLARK AIR BASE, PAMPANGA — The United States has provided additional emergency assistance to the Philippines following the devastation caused by Super Typhoon Fung-wong (Uwan), which struck less than a week after Typhoon Kalmaegi (Tino) and further strained ongoing relief efforts.
The United States announced USD 1.5 million (PHP87 million) in life-saving support for the Philippine government’s response, bringing its total assistance for Typhoons Kalmaegi and Fung-wong to USD 2.5 million (PHP145 million).
The aid package includes logistics support, emergency shelter, water and sanitation resources, and assistance in managing evacuation centers.
U.S. officials said the overlapping disasters — including the Cebu earthquake in September — have created significant challenges for millions of Filipinos.
They added that Washington’s continued rapid response underscores the longstanding partnership and close ties between the United States and the Philippines, particularly during times of crisis.
