The University of the Philippines Visayas Gender and Development Program capped its Women’s Month celebration with a wellness and empowerment forum March 31 at the UPV Iloilo City campus.
Anchored on the theme “Lead like the Babaylans, Filipinas!” the event, titled “Her Inner Wealth: Cultivating Clarity, Empowerment, and Well-Being Through Yoga,” brought together students, faculty members and staff in partnership with the UPV College of Management.
The program opened with welcome remarks from College of Management faculty member Jenny Pelasol, who stressed the value of self-grounded empowerment amid continuing challenges.
“In a world that constantly demands more, this event reminds us that true empowerment begins within, and that resilience is built through small, mindful acts of self-investment,” Pelasol said.
She said the gathering also reflected the community’s ability to adapt and move forward despite uncertainty.
“Fittingly, our coming together today is itself a testament to resilience. Despite unexpected shifts and uncertainties, we adapted, we recalibrated, and we moved forward. This is the spirit we hope to cultivate in each of us—the ability to remain grounded, flexible, and purposeful amidst change,” she said.
The panel discussion focused on financial literacy, nutrition and communication, with resource speakers sharing practical and experience-based insights.
Angelina Lourdes T. Cayabyab, assistant vice president of RCBC and an entrepreneur, spoke on financial literacy, focusing on responsible money management, business decision-making and building long-term financial security.
Aradelle V. Pardilla, founder of Aradelle’s Homemade Treats, discussed mindful eating on a budget and highlighted practical ways to maintain nutritious and sustainable food choices through informed and cost-efficient practices.
Mary Ann P. Tandog, business development manager at Avon Philippines and a seasoned host, talked about public speaking and communication, emphasizing confidence-building, effective self-expression, and the role of voice and presence in leadership.
The discussions were followed by a guided yoga session led by wellness educator and certified yoga teacher Faylyn San Diego.
San Diego facilitated mindful movement and breathwork and underscored the importance of holistic well-being in sustaining personal empowerment.
The activity forms part of the UPV Gender and Development Program’s continuing efforts to promote gender awareness, empowerment and inclusivity in the university community.
The event was also part of the annual National Women’s Month celebration observed every March in the Philippines.
