The University of the Philippines Visayas Research, Extension and Professional Staff Association, in partnership with the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension, recently held a seminar-workshop on personnel development and succession planning for REPS.
Titled Pagpanakayon: A Seminar-Workshop on REPS Development and Succession Plan for Sustainable Growth, the event took place on April 4, 2025, at the CFOS AV Hall, UPV Miagao campus.
The first part of the program featured talks by UPV faculty-administrators with extensive experience in research, administration and public service.
Topics included research and public service priorities, creating professional development plans and building sustainable careers.
Speakers were Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension Prof. Encarnacion Emilia Yap, Philippine Genome Center Visayas Director Dr. Victor Marco Emmanuel Ferriols and Vice Chancellor for Administration Dr. Farisal Bagsit.

Their presentations were followed by an open forum to address participant concerns.
REPS were then grouped into clusters—Research, Extension, Guidance Services, Librarians and REPS Managers—to discuss sector-specific issues.
Dr. Mary Jane Amar, immediate past REPSA president, presented the REPS Development Plan.
In a video message, Chancellor Clement Camposano said recognizing and investing in REPS professional growth is key to ensuring they can meet evolving demands in their roles at the university.
Vice Chancellor Yap said the workshop aimed to generate outputs that will guide the promotion and empowerment of UPV REPS.
REPSA President Rose Mueda added that the activity would help strengthen their competencies and prepare them for future career opportunities.
This seminar-workshop is the first of its kind dedicated to REPS development and succession planning. (Carlson Alelis, IPO)
