As part of its commitment to enhancing literacy among daycare learners, the University of the Philippines Visayas Language Program (UPV-LP) turned over two boxes of children’s books to the local government unit (LGU) of Badiangan, Iloilo, at the Badiangan Municipal Building on Jan. 23, 2026.
During the turnover ceremony, Sangguniang Bayan Member Serafin “Palong” Villa Jr., chair of the Committee on Social Services and representative of the Office of the Mayor, expressed gratitude to the University for choosing Badiangan as a partner.
He noted that the donation could help nurture a culture of reading and lifelong learning in the municipality.

In response, Assistant Professor Rene C. Trance, UPV-LP faculty-in-charge, said the donation is part of the Read UPV Project, which distributes children’s books to literacy program partners.
For the Badiangan LGU, UPV-LP collaborated with Grade 8 and 9 students from UP High School in Iloilo, who donated 121 preloved children’s books in September 2025.
The ceremony concluded with a photo opportunity in the new conference room and in front of the Badiangan Municipal Building, where daycare workers proudly raised their chosen children’s books.
Richard Armada, focal person and Day Care Worker II; Girlie Mae Pescadera, child development teacher; and Marian Janice M. Mamon, UPV-LP staff, worked closely to ensure the success of the turnover event. (UPV-LP)
