The UP Visayas Language Program and the UP Visayas University Library turned over 50 children’s book titles to the Municipality of Janiuay on July 2, 2026, at the New Conference Hall in Janiuay, Iloilo.
The donation was made in partnership with Zyrel T. Rojo and Jhoanna G. Rojo.
The turnover marked the second phase of the UPV LP Read UP Literacy Project, following the read-aloud workshops conducted for child development workers in March and April 2026.
The book donation was made possible through the generosity of the Rojo family in coordination with the UPV University Library.
Municipal officials and personnel formally received the collection, including Mayor Paulino Parian, Vice Mayor Felizardo D. Amigable Jr., Sangguniang Bayan Member Felix Barranco, Municipal Social Welfare and Development Officer Elizabeth G. Sevilla, Early Childhood Care and Development Focal Person Menzie Brizal, and Raffy Parpa.
The town’s child development workers, several day care learners, and their parents also joined the ceremony.
UPV was represented by Analiza S. Linaugo of the University Library, Assistant Professor Rene C. Trance, UPV LP faculty-in-charge, Marian Janice M. Mediana of UPV LP, and UPV Library staff members Sophia Diasanta and Gyca Magusara.
In their messages, municipal officials reaffirmed the local government unit’s commitment to literacy and early childhood care and development.
They also expressed continued support for the partnership between UPV and the municipality in future projects.
Now in its eighth year, the Read UP Literacy Project is the UPV LP’s flagship service initiative that seeks to foster a love for reading among young learners. (UPV-IPO)
