UPHSI students join Comelec voter education drive

ILOILO CITY — The Commission on Elections Region 6, together with the University of the Philippines Visayas, UP Alumni Association-Iloilo Chapter, YouVote, and MORE Electric and Power Corp., conducted the voter education campaign “Think Before You Ink” at the UP Visayas Auditorium on Aug. 26.

In his welcome message, Iloilo Provincial Election Supervisor Reinier B. Layson said the campaign is “to empower our voters to produce voters who will stand on their ideologies and will vote to their conscience.”

Layson emphasized that the campaign goes beyond basic voter education by teaching students how to become more discerning in choosing their leaders.

Resource persons from Comelec and MORE Power discussed voter qualifications, Philippine election laws, combating misinformation, choosing leaders, and the operation of the power system.

The resource persons were Marvin L. Gison, election officer III of Igbaras, Iloilo; Alice Bernadette P. Naranjo, election officer IV of Passi City, Iloilo; Jekar Francis D. Sullano, regional election attorney of Comelec Western Visayas; and Filomeno C. Sonza Jr. and John Dave J. Mabatan of MORE Power.
