One of the winningest basketball head coaches at the UAAP high school level will be taking his expertise and hoop knowledge to the collegiate level.
Former National University-Nazareth School Bullpups head coach Goldwin Monteverde is the new head tactician of the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons, replacing Bo Perasol.
UP chancellor Fidel Nemenzo made the announcement: “I would like to announce that the next UPMBT head coach is Goldwin Monteverde.”
During Montevedre’s three-year tenure with the Bullpups, the decorated coach led the team to a stellar overall record of 45-6 and 8-2 in the postseason.
One of his notable achievements was leading the Bullpups to a back-to-back UAAP high school championship crown and another two straight championship run in the NBTC National Finals.
“Despite the recent pandemic measures, we have continued with our consultations with the UP community, stakeholders, and supporters of the UP Men’s Basketball Team. We also conducted interviews with the applicants as part of the vetting process for the selection of UPMBT head coach,” added Nemenzo.
Former head coach Perasol will no longer join the Fighting Maroons’ coaching staff and will be the team’s program director instead.
