BACOLOD City – A man believed to be mentally ill was injured after he was shot by a police officer whom he allegedly tried to stab at Barangay V, San Carlos City, Negros Occidental on Tuesday.
The name of the 34-year-old suspect was withheld.
Police Major Mark Angelo Junco, San Carlos City police chief, said that the suspect went out of their house and acted violently when Rolly Paalisbo, a member of the Law Enforcement Team (LET), approached to pacify him.
But the suspect, who was armed with a steel saw, allegedly struck Paalisbo’s head.
Junco said that Paalisbo called for police assistance, but when the police arrived, the suspect allegedly tried to attack Police Corporal Allyn Estrao, which prompted him to shoot the suspect’s legs.
Paalisbo and the suspect were taken to a hospital. Estrao was unharmed.
Junco said that the suspect acted violent because he probably skipped his medicine.
Junco said that the suspect will be charged for physical injury, direct assault, and violation of the General Community Quarantine (GCQ) protocols in the city.
