BACOLOD City – A body of an unidentified woman was found floating in an irrigation canal at Barangay Atipuluan, Bago City, Negros Occidental last Wednesday.
Police Major John Joel Batusbatusan, city police chief, said a barangay watchman found the cadaver while he was walking on his way home.
Batusbatusan said the victim was already bloated. No injuries were seen on her body indicating foul play.
“Initially, she probably died of drowning because it was raining that day,” he said.
As of Thursday afternoon, the victim has yet to be identified, even nearby residents cannot identify her as a resident in the village or the adjacent barangays.
She was subjected to post mortem examination and will be buried after three days if nobody claims her remains, the city police chief said.
