BACOLOD City – A man allegedly shot his drunken nephew for causing alarm and scandal at Purok Santol, Barangay Camandag, La Castellana, Negros Occidental last Thursday.
Police identified the victim as Ronald Obrique, 32, of the said village.
Police Captain Rhojn Darell Nigos, town police chief, said the victim, who was armed with a bolo, purportedly waylaid his uncle Petronilo Obrique, 61, of Barangay Robles, and challenged him to a fight.
“Since there was already a misunderstanding between them as Ronald allegedly threatened his uncle previously when he was under the influence of liquor, Petronilo got mad,” Nigos said.
This triggered Petronilo to get his .45 caliber firearm from their house and shot his nephew, the police chief added.
“Dahil sa kainiton niya (Petronilo), kay ka salawayon gid ni ang biktima, ga maoy daw kung makainom, nagkuha siya armas,” Nigos said.
Nigos said Petronilo alleged that he threw the gun in the river near their house after the incident.
Nigos said that both families agreed to settle the case. Petronilo will be released from police custody after the 36-hour reglementary detention, he added.
