Unbeaten Creamline eyes PVL finals against Farm Fresh

QUEZON CITY — Creamline returns to action Thursday with momentum and a chance to move closer to the PVL Invitational finals when it faces Farm Fresh in a crucial tripleheader at the Araneta Coliseum.

The Cool Smashers hold the early advantage after winning their first two matches for the solo lead in a tight race where one setback could quickly reshape the standings.

Defending champion PLDT, Farm Fresh, Nxled, and Thailand’s EST Cola are tied at 1-1, while Ho Chi Minh remains winless at 0-2.

Creamline meets Farm Fresh in the 1:30 p.m. opener before PLDT battles Ho Chi Minh at 4 p.m. and Nxled takes on EST Cola at 6:30 p.m.

PLDT will try to bounce back after absorbing a straight-set loss to Nxled, while the Chameleons face an EST Cola side coming off a sweep of Farm Fresh.

Wednesday’s break gave all six teams an opportunity to recalibrate, fine-tune their systems, and prepare for the increasingly tight race to the finals.

With three elimination playdates remaining and only the top two teams advancing to Tuesday’s championship match, the margin for error has narrowed considerably.

The spotlight falls first on Creamline, which enters the Farm Fresh matchup as the tournament’s only unbeaten team but is taking nothing for granted.

“We expect a tougher match against Foxies,” said Jema Galanza after powering the Cool Smashers past Ho Chi Minh in straight sets Tuesday.

Galanza has been one of Creamline’s most productive weapons, scoring 17 points against Nxled before adding 12 against the Vietnamese side.

Against Farm Fresh, however, Galanza said individual production alone will not be enough.

“We’ll focus on our mistakes at siguro sa mga crucial points kailangan namin maging focused, kasi for sure mas dikit, mas maganda ang ibibigay na laban ng Farm Fresh sa amin,” she said.

The Foxies, meanwhile, will try to regroup after being swept by EST Cola as coach Koji Tsuzurabara looks for more consistent production from his key players and supporting cast.

Trisha Tubu still led Farm Fresh with 15 points against the Thai club, but the output was well below her 25-point explosion in the Foxies’ victory over Ho Chi Minh.

Rookie Jonna Perdido and veterans Riri Meneses and Ces Molina also reached double figures against Ho Chi Minh but were limited to single-digit outputs by EST Cola.

Farm Fresh will need production across its lineup to halt Creamline’s surge and strengthen its own bid for a championship berth.

Creamline is familiar with the pressure of the Invitational stage after winning the championship in 2022 and 2024.

The Cool Smashers’ experience, depth, and chemistry provide a proven foundation, but their unbeaten start offers no guarantees in the compact tournament.

Creamline has nevertheless shown encouraging form through two matches, absorbing pressure and delivering at crucial moments against Nxled and Ho Chi Minh.

The challenge now is sustaining that pace as the tournament enters its decisive stretch.

With three elimination playdates remaining, the standings can still shift dramatically before the top two teams advance to the championship match Tuesday.

Creamline’s 2-0 start gives it valuable separation from the field, but another victory Thursday would put the Cool Smashers in an even stronger position to chase another Invitational crown.

For now, Creamline has set the pace, and the rest of the field is trying to catch up.
