The Universities and Colleges Basketball League (UCBL) confirmed that they are already committed to hosting their fifth season late this year or early next year amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
President Franklin Evidente said that they already mapped out the safety protocols to be done once the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) on Emerging Infectious Diseases allows contact sports to resume in the country.
“Whether it will be late this year or early 2021, the UCBL is committed to open our Season Five on national television,” said president Evidente.
Evidente explained that they are in full support of what the IATF and the national government are currently doing for sports with health still the top priority.
“There are so many challenges right now, but the league is confident that with everyone’s cooperation, our nation will overcome this health crisis,” added Evidente.
For the meantime, Evidente is asking for all the participating school’s patience, discipline, cooperation, and long-time commitment with the pandemic still ongoing.
Despite Technological Institute of the Philippines withdrawing from the upcoming season due to cost-cutting reasons, Evidente and the UCBL committee remain optimistic heading into season five.
