The De La Salle University (DLSU) Green Archers continued their winning ways after asserting their mastery over the Adamson University Soaring Falcons, 70-45, in the ongoing UAAP Season 87 Men’s Basketball Tournament on October 19, 2024, at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion.
With another lopsided victory, the Green Archers just extended their UAAP winning streak to six consecutive wins and formalized their entry in the Final Four pool.
Reigning UAAP Most Valuable Player (MVP) Kevin Quiambao didn’t skip a beat and led the Green Archers with 17 points, six rebounds, and three assists.
Quiambao set the tone for the UAAP defending champs after owning the paint in the opening quarter, stabilizing the DLSU attack with his great decision-making on the offensive end.
From his post hooks to his back-down game, Quiambao was all over the place draining buckets, steering the Green Archers to an early double-digit advantage.
The bleeding didn’t end for Adamson as DLSU had its best scoring quarter in the second frame, led by the waxing-hot Joshua David who knocked down several three-pointers that ballooned their advantage to 20 points heading into the second half.
David picked up where Quiambao left off as he paid the trust of head coach Topex Robinson with his instant offense, as well as his suffocating defensive stance that forced numerous turnovers for the Adamson side.
The Soaring Falcons attempted to give the Green Archers different looks after locking in with their 1-2-2 and 2-3 zone defense, but the smoking hot DLSU team just can’t miss from the rainbow country and sustained their fine form until the final buzzer.
“These young men did what they were supposed to do, which is compete against one of the best programs led by coach Nash Racela,” said DLSU head coach Robinson.
David backstopped Quiambao with 11 markers, three rebounds, and three assists, while Raven Gonzales delivered eight points.
On the other hand, the Soaring Falcons was led by former Hua Siong College of Iloilo star big man Cedrick Manzano, who contributed 14 points, four rebounds, three assists, and three steals.
