The University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) will no longer let their athletes participate in any commercial and semi-professional leagues after a newly approved resolution.
League policy will bar all student-athletes who entered the 2019-2020 athletic season from playing in leagues such as the PBA D-League, the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL), and the Philippine Volleyball Superliga (PSL).
Unless schools will be sending out their team to join in the mentioned semi-professional leagues, then that is the time that they are going to allow their participation.
Currently, several athletes in the UAAP are actively participating in semi-professional leagues, baring the reason that it is their way of conditioning themselves for the UAAP season proper.
With no formal written resolution regarding the players’ entry in the other leagues outside of the UAAP in the past, the athletes had the freedom and the control to join whichever semi-pro league they wanted.
Expect the policy to be materialized as soon as the UAAP season resumes which is currently on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
