The University of Antique (UA) recently signed a memorandum of understanding with the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) as member of the Kaisa sa Sining network, making the university one of the 54 regional art centers (RAC) in the country.
University President Dr. Pablo S. Crespo Jr. says the partnership with the CCP is UA’s reply to the growing need to strengthen arts and culture initiatives in Antique. As the province’s premier university, UA aims to foster collaboration with other art centers and the Cultural Center, as arts and culture must complement the university’s vision as leader in science and technology. “Creativity is necessary for scientific and technological advancement; thus, we want our students to be exposed to arts and culture as well for a balanced and wholistic education while they are in the university,” he said.
Kaisa sa Sining is a project of CCP’s Cultural Exchange Department. It is a network of local government units, educational institutions, and non-government organizations who actively initiate and support programs on arts and culture in the regions. Launched in 2014, the network has now grown from initial membership of nine organizations to 54. There are 20 in Luzon, 17 in the Visayas, and 17 in Mindanao.
UA is among the latest RAC to join the network in the Visayas. It is the first and only organization from the province of Antique to be included in the CCP network. Among other RACs from Panay are the provincial government of Capiz, the municipality of Sta. Barbara, and Central Philippine University. (IAP)
