U.S. gov’t trains PHL border security agencies

THE U.S. Embassy in the Philippines conducted a border security training with 19 officers from June 17 to 21, 2019.

The training provided participants with a thorough understanding of the targeting and risk management process to help identify high-risk shipments as well as high-risk persons entering the country.

The training was funded by the U.S. Department of State’s Export Control and Related Border Security (EXBS) program and conducted by U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

During the course, participants learned best practices for collecting, tracking, and reporting data and information, as well as analyzing and assessing risks.

A visit to the Philippines National Coast Watch Center (NCWC) emphasized the importance of inter-agency collaboration in the targeting and risk management process.

While visiting, participants learned about the NCWC’s mandate and structure as well as toured its facilities.

The EXBS program seeks to help partner countries build effective national strategic trade control systems.

In the Philippines, EXBS partners with the government on improving border security capabilities, strengthening the strategic trade management system, and improving capabilities in preventing proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
