U.S. Embassy, CHED conclude nationwide flexible learning training

The U.S. Embassy in the Philippines and the Philippine Commission on Higher Education (CHED) lauded the second and final cohort of 177 faculty administrators and school officials who recently completed the nationwide flexible learning training implemented by the Texas International Education Consortium (TIEC).

The training on Flexible Learning Foundations is the U.S. Embassy and CHED’s joint response to pandemic-related challenges faced by Philippine higher education.  The partnership is part of the yearlong celebration of the 75th anniversary of U.S.-Philippine diplomatic relations.

“We are excited that we have brought our two countries even closer than before thanks to this project,” said CHED International Affairs Staff Director Atty. Lily Milla.  “Philippine education will thrive and excel in the new normal with the competent and passionate participants of the TIEC training leading the way for flexible education.”

More than 2,000 faculty and school administrators benefited from the program, which covered such topics as humanizing instruction, reducing the transactional distance between teachers and students, designing online training programs, and evaluating program implementation.

“We continue to innovate and find ways to meet mutual goals even though this pandemic has been uniquely hard for all of us, especially for educators and their students,” said U.S. Embassy in the Philippines Deputy Cultural Attaché Pauline Anderson.

“I was most impressed with the way our trainers conducted the program,” said Mariano Marcos State University Chief of Distance Learning Byron Joseph Hallar.  “They practice what they teach. As it is my first time to undergo a training program conducted by Americans, I am most impressed by their kindness, professionalism, and helpfulness.”
