The province of Iloilo has reported an estimated PHP 30.29 million worth of damage to its agriculture and fisheries sectors following the onslaught of Typhoon Tino, according to the latest situational report from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office as of Nov. 6 at 8 p.m.
Agricultural losses were recorded in rice, corn, and high-value commercial crops across several municipalities.
Damage was reported in 21 rice areas, six corn areas, and 10 HVCC areas, while the fisheries sector was affected in four municipalities.
A total of 1,492 farmers and 1,161 fisherfolk were affected provincewide.
Meanwhile, 17 municipalities reported 1,199 damaged houses — 1,148 partially damaged and 51 totally destroyed.
The total number of affected individuals has reached 140,024, or 46,138 families, across 825 barangays in 41 municipalities, including Passi City.
One fatality was confirmed in Dumangas town.
Typhoon Tino brought heavy rains and strong winds that triggered flooding and widespread agricultural damage, particularly in low-lying and coastal areas, disrupting livelihoods and local food production.
The PDRRMO Emergency Operations Center continues to monitor local government units for requests related to relief assistance, clearing operations, and incident reports.
With improving weather conditions, the PDRRMO downgraded its alert status from red to blue effective 12 noon on Nov. 6.
The province is set to receive PHP 50 million in financial assistance from the Office of the President to support affected families and rehabilitation efforts.
Residents are urged to remain vigilant and coordinate with their respective local disaster risk reduction and management offices for advisories as weather disturbances continue to develop in the region.
On Friday, Nov. 7, Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. convened a blended meeting with members of the Provincial Community Defense Action Cluster to discuss disaster preparedness measures amid the impending entry of Typhoon Uwan into the Philippine Area of Responsibility.
Defensor emphasized the importance of preemptive evacuation and proactive measures, particularly in coastal and upland areas vulnerable to storm surges and landslides.
According to the PAGASA forecast, Typhoon Uwan may make landfall over Northern Luzon by Sunday evening or early Monday morning, with Iloilo expected to experience moderate to heavy rains during the same period.
