Strong winds brought by Typhoon Tino (Kalmaegi) have destroyed or damaged 10,258 houses across Western Visayas.
According to the Department of Social Welfare and Development Region 6, 259 houses were totally destroyed, while 9,999 were partially damaged.
Iloilo province recorded the highest number, with 90 houses totally destroyed and 5,679 partially damaged.
In Antique, 107 houses were totally destroyed and 2,416 partially damaged.
Aklan recorded 758 damaged homes, Capiz had 622, and Guimaras reported 586.
As of 4 a.m. on Nov. 7, data from the DSWD’s Disaster Response Operations Monitoring and Information Center showed that Typhoon Tino displaced 263,487 families or 851,691 individuals.
Iloilo had the highest number of affected families at 83,270, followed by Capiz with 77,395, Antique with 45,879, Aklan with 41,844, and Guimaras with 15,099.
The number of affected barangays reached 2,514 across 101 cities and municipalities.
The number of families staying in open evacuation centers has dropped from 20,819 to 7,786.
