Two workers face direct assault charges in Capiz

ROXAS CITY, Capiz — Two construction workers are facing direct assault charges after allegedly attacking a police officer who intervened in a fight in Barangay Pawa, Panay, Capiz, on Friday afternoon, July 24.

The officer was identified as Police Master Sgt. Arcangeles, 40, a resident of Barangay Tiza, Roxas City, and a member of the Panay Municipal Police Station.

The suspects were identified only as “Jury,” 32, and “Tani,” 48, both residents of Barangay Pawa.

Investigators said Arcangeles and another police officer were returning to the station in a patrol car after serving a subpoena in Barangay Buntod, Panay.

The officers stopped after seeing a motorcycle lying beside the road.

They later found the two suspects fighting inside a store.

Arcangeles approached the men and tried to pacify them.

Police alleged that Tani grabbed a chair and struck Arcangeles in the stomach.

Jury allegedly drew a knife and confronted the officer.

Arcangeles and his colleague disarmed Jury and arrested both suspects.

The suspects were taken to the Panay Municipal Police Station for proper disposition.

Police said charges of direct assault upon an agent of a person in authority would be filed against them Monday, July 27.
