Two teenage girls died from drowning in a river in Janiuay, Iloilo afternoon of Jan 7, 2023.
The bodies of JM Almirante and Rigen Mambusada, both 16 years old and Grade 10 students from Barangay Danao, Janiuay, were scooped out of the river in nearby Caraudan village.
Captain Alwin Salmon, Janiuay police chief, said there was no search and rescue operation that was conducted because no one knew about the drowning incident.
A resident just saw the bodies around 4 p.m. Saturday.
Salmon said someone saw the two girls swimming in the area around 2 p.m.
They apparently got swept by the strong water current after going into a deeper portion of the river.
Members of the Janiuay Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) took the victims to Federico Roman Tirador Sr. Memorial District Hospital but they did not pull through.
