Two motorcycle riders were arrested in a hot pursuit operation after they shot an elderly man early Tuesday, Dec 30, 2024 in Janiuay, Iloilo.
Police identified the suspects as alias Jun, 20, and alias Mar, 43, both residents of Barangay Guadalupe, Janiuay.
Police said the suspects ran out of gasoline while traveling through Barangay Jibolo at about 2 p.m.
Police said they went to a nearby “bote-bote” petroleum kiosk.
Police said they knocked on the hut of 66-year-old alias Frey, who was selling gasoline in soda bottles.
Capt. Marlon Perez, Janiuay police chief, said the suspects bought two bottles of gasoline.
Instead of paying, police said the suspects told the victim they would return later to pay.
Police said the victim refused and the suspects tried to speed away.
Police said Frey ran after them.
Police said the victim caught up after the suspects’ motorcycle malfunctioned when a cable detached.
Perez said Mar allegedly told Jun to shoot the victim when they were cornered.
Police said Jun fired twice, but only one bullet hit the victim in the right thigh.
Neighbors brought the victim to the Roman Tirador Memorial District Hospital, which police said is a few meters from his home.
Perez said police conducted a hot pursuit operation and arrested the suspects not far from the scene.
Police said the suspects are detained and will be charged.
