ROXAS CITY, Capiz — Two persons were arrested in separate operations Wednesday, Sept. 30, in Roxas City and Pontevedra town.
A 27-year-old person was arrested Wednesday evening in a gun buy-bust operation conducted by the Station Drug Enforcement Team (SDET) of the Roxas City Police Station in Barangay Dumolog, Roxas City.
The operation was conducted around 9:28 p.m. against alias “Carmelo,” of San Roque Street, Roxas City.
Police recovered from the suspect a .38-caliber revolver, a heat-sealed transparent sachet containing suspected shabu and PHP 3,000 in buy-bust money.
The suspect is under the custody of the Roxas City Police Station while charges for alleged violations of Republic Act No. 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, and Republic Act No. 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, are being prepared.
Meanwhile, another person was arrested Wednesday afternoon for alleged violation of Republic Act No. 10591 in Barangay Ilawod, Pontevedra, Capiz.
Police identified the suspect as alias “Juvy,” 57, a resident of the area, who was arrested during the implementation of a search warrant.
The operation was conducted by joint personnel of the Capiz Police Intelligence Unit (PIU), the lead unit, together with the 1st Capiz Provincial Mobile Force Company (PMFC), 2nd Capiz PMFC, Regional Special Operations Group (RSOG), Regional Intelligence Unit (RIU) and Pontevedra Municipal Police Station.
The search warrant was issued Sept. 28, 2026, by Regional Trial Court Executive Judge Lorencito B. Diaz of Branch 17 in Roxas City.
Police recovered from the suspect a .45-caliber pistol, seven live rounds of .45-caliber ammunition, magazines and a holster; two .38-caliber revolvers; live ammunition for an M16 rifle; and an M16 with a magazine.
Also recovered were a 9 mm Taurus pistol, several rounds of 9 mm ammunition and a magazine, a camouflage bandolier, sling bags and one fragmentation grenade.
The suspect is under the custody of the Pontevedra Municipal Police Station for proper disposition and court referral.
The arrests came amid intensified efforts by Capiz police to account for loose firearms, with around 550 firearms and 36 explosives surrendered through barangay officials across the province from July 28 to Sept. 23 under the Capiz Police Provincial Office’s CAPeace-Tawhayan project.
Republic Act No. 10591 regulates the ownership, possession, carrying, manufacture and sale of firearms and ammunition, while Republic Act No. 9165 governs offenses involving dangerous drugs.
