Two motorcycle riders killed in road mishaps

BACOLOD City – Two men died after they figured in separate motorcycle accidents in Negros Occidental in the past two days.

The first accident was reported in Calatrava town on May 22, killing Fortunato Nepalar, 27, of Barangay Minapasuk.

Captain Jesus Alba, deputy chief of Calatrava Municipal Police Station, said Nepalar was on his way home after attending a fiesta when he hit a mango tree while approaching a curved part of the road at Sitio Villalon, Barangay Marcelo.

Alba said the victim was reportedly drunk and was seen by some witnesses swerving while driving his motorcycle.

Alba said the victim had no helmet and was declared dead in a hospital.

The following day in Kabankalan City, Arcris Capadocia, 36, of Barangay Tampalon, died in a collision with another motorcycle at Purok Malipayon in the said village.

Staff Master Sergeant Ramonito Regalia Jr., chief investigator of Kabankalan City Police Station, said the victim fell from his motorcycle when the driven motorcycle of a 36-year-old lending collector overlapped onto his lane, causing a collision.

Regalia said the lending collector was allegedly speeding while approaching the curve part of the road. His companion was unharmed.

Regalia said the lending collector was arrested in Barangay Talubangi, a few hours after the accident happened, as he immediately went to a hospital for his minor injuries.

Police Lieutenant Colonel John Joel Batusbatusan, city police chief, said that Capadocia was on his way to the city proper to buy his child’s milk when the accident happened.

The victim hit his head on the pavement and was declared dead in a hospital, according to the police.

Police are waiting for the decision of the victim’s family on the filing of a case, while the lending collector has expressed intention to provide assistance to the victim’s family.
