Two more personnel of the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) who were deployed to Cebu tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
The two COVID-19 positive cops are part of the 53 officers who were sent to Central Visayas to augment the latter’s police force on June 18.
Dubbed as Patient Nos. 39 and 40, the two male personnel may not be able to go home with their fellow PRO-6 personnel on Sept 4.
“Their result was only released on Sunday, August 30. Their travel would be arranged once their repeat swab test would yield a negative result,” Police Lieutenant Colonel Joem Malong, PRO-6 spokesperson, said.
It was gathered that three other policemen deployed in Cebu have contracted the virus.
Two were found positive on July 22 and another one on July 29.
Meanwhile, of the 53 police officers, 43 will go home on Friday.
Seven policemen would also remain in Cebu since they were tagged as “close contacts” of the two positive patients.
One policeman was earlier sent home after his mother died in Roxas City recently.
The two cases are part of the six new cases among PRO-6 personnel.
As of August 31, COVID-positive PRO-6 personnel have gone up to 40. Of the said number, 23 are considered as active cases, 16 recoveries, and 1 death.
The other three cases that were reported on August 28 include:
* Patient No. 35: a 39-year old male from RHQ assigned with RCD and a resident of Roxas City, Capiz;
* Patient No. 36: a 34-year old female from RCADD who lives in City Proper, Iloilo City;
* Patient No. 37: a 37-year old female assigned with the Office of the Regional Director and a resident of San Joaquin, Iloilo
On the other hand, Patient No. 38 is a 27-year old male assigned with RPHAU detailed with ICPO and a resident of Iloilo City.
Malong assures that personnel who were found positive are now under isolation. “Contact tracing is continuously conducted to cut the spreading of the virus,” she said.
