BACOLOD CITY – The City Health Office has reported two additional dengue fatalities as of July 27, bringing the total number of deaths to four.
The latest victims were from Barangays Vista Alegre and Handumanan.
The third fatality was a 6-year-old girl from Barangay Handumanan who died on July 17 due to dengue shock syndrome.
She experienced intermittent fever for five days and began showing symptoms on July 9.
The fourth victim was a 5-year-old boy from Barangay Vista Alegre who died on July 27 from severe dengue.
From January to July, a total of 631 dengue cases have been recorded—a 67.8% increase from the 376 cases and one death logged during the same period last year.
Barangays with the highest number of cases include Mansilingan with 64; Taculing, 48; Estefania and Tangub, 44 each; Alijis, 34; Vista Alegre, 33; Villamonte, 32; Barangay 1 and Mandalagan, 28 each; and Handumanan and Sum-ag, 27 each.
For pediatric cases, 251 were reported among children aged 1 to 10; 173 among those aged 11 to 19; and nine cases among infants less than a year old, totaling 433 cases.
The city’s first dengue fatality this year was a 64-year-old man from Barangay Alijis who died in February.
In April, a 42-year-old woman from Barangay Mansilingan also died from dengue.
