Two men face illegal gambling charges in Capiz

ROXAS CITY, Capiz — Two men arrested in separate anti-gambling operations Saturday, July 11, in Pilar and Panay were charged Monday, July 13.
Pilar police arrested alias Adriano, 65, of Barangay Natividad at about 3 p.m. for allegedly collecting bets for an illegal small-town lottery operation known as STL bookies.
Police said a poseur-bettor placed a wager with the suspect during the operation.
Officers recovered an improvised “cotejo” betting stub and PHP 100 in alleged bet collections from the suspect.
Panay police arrested alias Arthur, 56, the same day in Barangay Magubilan for allegedly soliciting bets for an illegal STL bookies operation.
Police recovered a betting stub, PHP 20 in wager money, and PHP 140 in alleged collections in various denominations from the suspect.
The two suspects remained in the custody of the Pilar and Panay police stations pending the filing of complaints with the Capiz Provincial Prosecutor’s Office.
Republic Act 9287 increases the penalties for illegal numbers games and amended provisions of Presidential Decree 1602.
