From future seamen to inmates.
Two marine engineering students were arrested during a police anti-drug operation on the evening of July 27 in Arevalo, Iloilo City.
Police identified the suspects only by their aliases: “John,” 20, of Barangay Tiring, Cabatuan, Iloilo, and “Cy,” 24, of Poblacion, Cabatuan.
Members of the Iloilo City Police Station 6 arrested the two after they allegedly sold a sachet of suspected shabu for PHP1,500.
Capt. Benjie Dicen, commander of ICPS 6, said Cy was driving his aunt’s Mitsubishi Adventure AUV at the time of the arrest.
Police also recovered the vehicle and around PHP27,000 worth of suspected shabu from the suspects.
Dicen said authorities received reports that the duo had been selling illegal drugs to fellow students in the area.
He noted that their alleged activity had reportedly been ongoing for several months.
The suspects allegedly sourced the supply for their clients in exchange for free use of the drugs.
“They are considered user-pushers,” Dicen said.
Both suspects have no prior drug-related records.
John and Cy are now in police custody and will be charged with violating Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
