BACOLOD CITY – Two tricycle passengers were killed and three others, including the driver, were injured after a sports utility vehicle (SUV) rammed into their tricycle at the intersection of B.S. Aquino and Gatuslao Street in Barangay 3 at 4:38 a.m. Tuesday.
The fatalities were identified as Cheralyn and Redilla, both residents of Barangay Banago in this city.
The injured were identified as Crislyn, Roda, and the tricycle driver Openiano, a resident of Talisay City, Negros Occidental.
A report from the Traffic Enforcement Unit (TEU) stated that the SUV was driven by an alleged minor from La Castellana town.
Police said the victims were on their way to the Libertad Public Market to buy and sell goods when the SUV struck the sidecar of the tricycle.
The impact pushed the tricycle into the opposite lane and threw the passengers onto the road.
Cheralyn and Redilla died on the spot, while the three others were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The SUV driver is now under police custody pending further investigation.
