Two killed, one injured in road mishaps

BACOLOD City – An elderly man and a woman died, while another was wounded in separate road accidents in Negros Occidental last week.

In Kabankalan City, Jimmy Tejas, 63, of Ilog town, died after his motorcycle collided with a truck in Barangay Talubangi on Thursday, July 6.

Based on police investigation, the victim was traveling from Kabankalan City to Ilog town when he reportedly overtook a vehicle.

However, he lost control of his driven motorcycle and crashed into a truck that was traveling in the opposite lane.

The victim was declared dead in a hospital, according to the police.

The following day, Jennelyn Torno, 32, of Barangay Minoyan, died while her brother Josie Torno Jr., 29 was wounded after their motorcycle crashed into a sedan in Barangay Lopez Jaena.

Police Captain Everly Canto, deputy chief of Murcia Municipal Police Station, said a sedan was executing a u-turn when the motorcycle driven by Josie lost control and collided with the vehicle.

Canto said the Torno siblings were not wearing helmets. Jennelyn hit her head on the sedan’s hood and fell to the pavement, causing her head injuries.

Josie suffered minor injuries, while his sister was declared dead in a hospital.

Canto said the sedan driver was released from police custody following a settlement with the victims’ family.

Meanwhile, policemen have identified the biker that was killed after he was hit by a motorcycle and run over by a white pick-up truck in Barangay Taloc, Bago City, Negros Occidental last Thursday.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Joem Malong, Bago City police chief, said the victim was identified by his family on Friday, July 7, as Kevin Casabuena, 22, of Barangay Sum-ag here.

Malong said the victim left their house after dinner on Wednesday night without the knowledge of his parents, according to his family.

The pick-up truck driver has yet to be identified.
