BACOLOD City – Two persons died while another was wounded in separate road accidents in Negros Occidental over the weekend.
In San Enrique town, a man died while his live-in-partner was wounded after their tricycle collided with a truck at Barangay Poblacion last Saturday.
Police identified the fatality as Vincent Cañete, 26, of Barangay Tabao Rizal.
Wounded was Jojean Pura, 26, of Barangay Tabao Rizal.
Police Lieutenant Sammy Gasataya, deputy police chief of San Enrique Municipal Police Station, said the couple was on their way home from a bakery when Cañete, who was driving the tricycle, avoided a stray dog on the road and overlapped on the opposite lane.
The tricycle then collided with a truck driven by 45-year-old Arturo Bayona of Barangay Zone 15, Talisay City.
The couple was taken to a hospital where Cañete was declared dead on arrival.
Gasataya said that both parties had an initial settlement yesterday.
If both parties agree, the truck driver will be released from police custody after the lapse of the 18-hour reglementary detention period.
The following day, a young man also died after his car crashed into a concrete pot and a bridge barrier in Talisay City last Sunday.
According to Police Staff Sergeant Jade Dela Cruz, traffic investigator of Talisay City Police Station, 23-year-old Kyle Angelo Regalado of Barangay Bata here, was on his way home when the accident occurred.
Dela Cruz said that Regalado first crashed into the concrete pot then into the barrier while approaching the Matab-ang bridge.
His sports utility vehicle rolled over several times before it landed on the center island.
His cousin was tailing him as they came from a friend’s house in Silay City where they allegedly had a few drinks, the traffic investigator added.
The rescuers also said that the victim smelled alcohol, Dela Cruz added.
Dela Cruz said that it took about 30 minutes for rescuers to remove Regalado from the driver’s seat as he was pinned down.
Regalado was rushed to a hospital where he later expired, Dela Cruz said.
