BACOLOD City – Two persons were killed in separate road accidents in Negros Occidental on Sunday, March 12.
A woman and her 14-year-old relative were killed after the tricycle they were riding crashed into roadside railings at Crossing Busay, Barangay Punta Mesa, Manapla town.
One of the fatalities was identified as Maribel Ybañes, 45, while the name of the minor was withheld.
Five others, including tricycle driver Randy Fuentes, were wounded in the accident.
Police Major Jaynick Bermudez, Manapla town police chief, said a truck loaded with chicken was tailing a tricycle ridden by a family when it hit the rear part of the latter vehicle.
Fuentes then lost control of the tricycle and crashed into the railings that caused them injuries, he added.
Ybañes was declared dead on arrival at a hospital while the minor passed away also at a hospital early the following day, Bermudez said.
Bermudez said the family came from a market day in Cadiz City and was on their way home to Barangay Tortosa, Manapla town when the accident happened.
Bermudez said that both parties had an initial settlement.
