Two killed in road accidents

BACOLOD City – Two persons perished in separate road accidents here and in Negros Occidental last Friday.

In Bacolod, a 9-year-old boy died in a hit-and-run accident on Araneta Street, Barangay Singcang-Airport here around 10 p.m.

Police withheld the name of the victim who was a resident of Barangay 35 here.

Police Major Joery Puerto, head of Police Station 8, said the victim was crossing the street when a white van reportedly hit him and fled.

Two other unidentified vehicles also ran over the victim, which caused his immediate death.

Some witnesses in the area first thought that a dog was involved in the incident, Puerto said.

Puerto said the child was among the kids loitering in that area despite the curfew hours.

“Kadamo na da sa ila na daw gapangayo-ngayo bala, tapos pag ara ang police nga sawayon sila madinalagan man,” Puerto said, adding that these children need proper guidance from their parents.

Puerto said they will review closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera footage in the area to identify the three vehicles through their plate numbers.

In Sagay City, a motorcycle rider died after he collided with a tricycle at Hacienda Amparo, Barangay Old Sagay.

Police Lieutenant Abundio Diaz Jr., deputy police chief of Sagay City Police Station, identified the fatality as Rosebert Edaño, 25, of Barangay Poblacion II.

Diaz said Edaño was reportedly speeding and lost control of his motorcycle that caused him to crash into a tricycle.

Diaz said the tricycle driver saw Edaño’s motorcycle swerving from afar, prompting him to slow down and stop on the roadside.

But Edaño still rammed into the tricycle, also causing injuries to one of its two passengers.

Diaz said Edaño was declared dead on arrival, while the female passenger of the tricycle is confined in a hospital.

Diaz said the tricycle driver was released on Saturday after the 18-hour reglementary detention period lapsed.

Meanwhile, three accidents also occurred in Barangay Mandalagan here last Friday and Saturday, which caused injuries to some motorists.
