ROXAS CITY, Capiz – Two separate fire incidents broke out Saturday night, June 7, in Jamindan town and Barangay Culasi in this city.
An estimated PHP109,800 worth of property was lost when the Laurino family’s house in Sitio Magsaysay, Poblacion, Jamindan was partially destroyed by fire.
The house, made of light materials, caught fire around 9:31 p.m. and was declared out at 10:02 p.m., according to the Jamindan Bureau of Fire Protection.
Several residents and BFP personnel responded immediately to contain the blaze.
An arson investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire.
In Barangay Culasi, Roxas City, the home of a fisherman in Sitio Nipa also caught fire.
The owner, Roland Morero, 35, said he was on the shore repairing his fishing boat when someone informed him of the fire.
He said no one was home when the incident happened.
Initial findings from the Roxas City BFP suggest the fire started in the couple’s bedroom.
Authorities have yet to determine the extent of the damage.
Quick action by neighbors helped prevent the fire from spreading.
