BACOLOD City – Two fishermen were rescued after their motorized boat capsized in the waters of Barangay Canmuros, Binalbagan, Negros Occidental Tuesday.
One of the victims was identified as Reynold Arcillas, 30. Authorities withheld the name of his 17-year-old crewmember. Both of them were unharmed.
The incident happened after Arcillas’ boat tangled with the trawl lines of another fishing boat.
Commander Jansen Benjamin, head of Philippine Coast Guard (PCG)-Negros Occidental, said crewmembers of the other fishing boat helped the two victims when their boat submerged into the water.
The incident happened around 8 p.m. Tuesday.
Coast Guard personnel in the neighboring town of Hinigaran responded along with the members of the Bantay Dagat.
Benjamin said the crews of both fishing boats were subjected to investigation for alleged trawling which is prohibited.
They will probably have to pay a fine for their administrative sanction, he added.
