Two drug suspects nabbed, PHP 564,400 shabu seized

BACOLOD CITY — Police arrested two individuals listed by the Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council and seized about 83 grams of suspected shabu valued at PHP 564,400 during a buy-bust operation in Barangay Vista Alegre on Oct. 14, authorities said.
Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region said the operation was conducted in Purok Progreso Village 1 as part of its continuing campaign against illegal drugs.
The suspects were identified only by their aliases, “Ding” and “Jess,” in accordance with police practice of withholding the full identities of suspects before conviction.
Police described “Ding” as an HVI, 48, married, unemployed and a resident of Purok Progreso Village 1 in Barangay Vista Alegre.
“Jess,” whom police classified as an SLI, is 33, married, unemployed and also a resident of Purok Progreso Village 1.
The operation was carried out by the Bacolod City Police Office’s City Drug Enforcement Unit with support from the City Intelligence Unit and Police Station 7.
Police said the operation stemmed from information provided by a confidential informant and concerned citizens alleging that “Ding” was selling illegal drugs in Purok Avada Escay and Purok Progreso Village 1.
Operatives conducted monitoring and surveillance to validate the information and later determined that “Jess” was allegedly a trusted downline of “Ding,” according to the police report.
Police said both suspects had previously been arrested for violations of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
After coordinating with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, police conducted the buy-bust operation that resulted in the arrests.
Authorities recovered suspected illegal drugs, buy-bust money, cash believed to be proceeds from illegal drug transactions and other related evidence.
Police said the seized items were inventoried and documented in accordance with Section 21 of RA 9165, which prescribes procedures for the handling and documentation of seized illegal drugs and related evidence.
The suspects were also informed of their constitutional rights and of provisions of the Anti-Torture Act in a language they understood, police said.
Both suspects remained in the custody of Police Station 7 while authorities prepared complaints for alleged violations of Sections 5 and 11, Article II of RA 9165, covering the sale and possession of illegal drugs.
