BACOLOD CITY – Two drivers involved in a fatal road crash that killed a six-month pregnant nurse in Barangay Taloc, Bago City, were released Tuesday after posting a combined bail of PHP120,000.
Police Lt. Col. Ariel Pico, officer-in-charge of the Bago City Police Station, said 30-year-old “Philip” of Barangay Cabug and 59-year-old “Salvador” of Pulupandan posted bail of PHP50,000 and PHP70,000, respectively, through a surety bond.
Both were released from detention at around 4:45 p.m., Pico added.
He said police initially filed a complaint for reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide against the drivers.
However, the Municipal Trial Court in Cities later charged both with reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and unintentional abortion.
The charges stemmed from a June 1 road accident that claimed the life of 36-year-old nurse “Maria” and her unborn baby boy.
Maria was on her way to work in Valladolid when she was struck by Philip’s multi-purpose vehicle.
The impact threw her onto the opposite lane, where she was reportedly run over by a sedan driven by Salvador.
Both drivers claimed they did not see the victim crossing on the pedestrian lane.
Pico said the court has scheduled the first trial for June 10.
