Two young men died after their motorcycle hit a trailer truck evening of May 27, 2023 in Passi City, Iloilo.
Police identified the fatalities as Jay-R Sencil, 23, of Barangay Imbang, Passi City and Zaldy Palomar, 23, of Barangay Bacuranan, Passi City.
Their companion, 23-year-old Sherwin Bontog of Bacuranan village, survived.
Sencil was driving the Suzuki Smash motorcycle while Palomar and Bontog were his back riders.
As they were navigating the national highway along Barangay Bacuranan around 6:10 p.m. Saturday, their motorcycle hit the rear left portion of the Sino trailer truck owned by the Leyte-based Petrologistical Corp.
The truck driver, Alvin Dizon, 38, of Dao, Capiz, alleged that the victims encroached on a portion of his lane.
Dizon allegedly tried to evade the collision after seeing that the motorcycle was running in a zigzag manner but to no avail.
The victims were rushed to Don Valerio F. Palmares Memorial District Hospital in Passi City but Sencil and Palomar were declared dead on arrival.
Master Sergeant Jervin Palec, Passi City police traffic investigator, said the victims were not wearing crash helmets when the incident happened.
They allegedly came from work and were on their way to Bacuranan village when the incident happened.
Palec said there’s already an initial talk for a possible settlement between the victims’ and the suspect’s camp.
