BACOLOD City – An elderly woman and a tricycle driver perished while two others were injured in two separate road accidents in Negros Occidental in the past two days.
In Talisay City, Gloria Guanzon, 72, of Barangay Zone 15, died at the hospital after she was sideswiped by motorcycle rider Arnel Guadalupe, 38, of Barangay Alicante, E.B. Magalona town, at Barangay Zone 8 on Monday.
Police Lieutenant Ray Cordero, deputy chief of Talisay City Police Station, said both Guanzon and Guadalupe were taken to the hospital for multiple injuries.
Guanzon was later declared dead while Guadalupe was transferred to Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH) here.
In Silay City, tricycle driver Richard Vargas, 44, of Barangay Mambulac died while his passenger Gregorio Dela Torre Jr., 54, of Silay City, was injured after their vehicle was reportedly sideswiped by a sports utility vehicle (SUV) at Barangay 5 on Sunday.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Rollie Pondevilla, city police chief, said that the SUV driver was identified as Welfrido Manaay Jr., 34, of Barangay Rizal, Silay City.
Pondevilla said Vargas was pronounced dead at a hospital, while Dela Torre is now stable in a hospital.
Pondevilla said the two parties settled the incident after Manaay assured them of his assistance. He was released from police custody the following day.
