BACOLOD CITY – A senior citizen and a woman died, while four others were injured in separate road accidents in Negros Occidental on Monday.
In Silay City, a 59-year-old woman from Barangay Guinhalaran died after the tricycle she was riding was hit in a multiple-vehicle collision in Barangay 5.
Police Lt. Grace Eran, administration officer of the Silay City Police Station, said a speeding pickup truck allegedly struck two tricycles and another car, based on closed-circuit television footage.
She said the street where the crash occurred is usually not busy and speculated that excessive speed might have caused the accident.
The woman was declared dead at a hospital.
Four others were injured, including two tricycle drivers, a minor, and another passenger.
Eran said they are waiting for the decision of the victims’ families regarding possible charges against the female pickup truck driver.
In Murcia town, a 66-year-old woman was killed after being hit by a passenger van while crossing the road in Barangay Pandanon Silos.
Police Major Sherwin Fernandez, chief of the Murcia Municipal Police Station, said the victim had a hearing impairment, according to her family, and was often seen along the street waiting for a fish vendor.
Fernandez said the van driver told police he saw the woman from afar and tried to avoid her, but she suddenly crossed and stopped in the middle of the road.
She was also pronounced dead at a hospital.
Fernandez added that both parties have reached a settlement.
