Two motorcycle riders died in a vehicular incident late evening of February 23, 2021 in Nabas, Aklan.
Police identified the fatalities as Jomar Igot, 32, and his live-in partner, Sally Montil, 44, both residents of Barangay Union, Nabas.
Investigation indicated that the victims were on their way from Caticlan to Ibajay town when the incident occured around 11:20PM Tuesday.
Another motorcycle driver and his two backriders were also injured after they tried to evade a zigzagging wing van.
Wounded were Augusto Villagracia, 39, of Barangay Ondoy, Ibajay and his backriders Danilyn Maquirang, 38, of Poblacion, Ibajay and Ryan Laurente, 33 of Barangay Aslum, Ibajay.
Master Sergeant Reynandthur Prado, Nabas police investigator said the incident happened after a Fuso wing van drove in the opposite lane as it was passing through a bridge at Barangay Buenasuerte.
Villagracia allegedly evaded the truck until they tumbled to the roadside and sustained non life-threatening injuries.
Igot and Montil also tried to evade the truck but they crashed to where Villagracia and others fell.
Rescue personnel from the Nabas Municipal Risk Reduction and Management Office took Igot and Montil to Ibajay District Hospital but they did not survive.
The other victims were taken to Dr. Rafael S. Tumbukon Memorial Hospital in Kalibo for further medication.
The van’s driver, Joey Maravilla, a native of Sagan City, Negros Occidental, was also injured and is now under hospital arrest.
Maravilla said he had no recollection of what happened before the incident as he dozed off while behind the wheel.
Maravilla’s companion, Winlove Lemonsito, 18, of Pilar, Capiz, also suffered injuries.
Police are now preparing a case for reckless imprudence resulting to double homicide against Maravilla.
