BACOLOD CITY – Two cousins died in a motorcycle accident at Purok Bougainvillea, Barangay Vista Alegre, Ilog, Negros Occidental, on Sunday.
Police identified the victims as Christian Jan Yap, 20, and his second cousin, Jhon Clifford Cines, 23, both residents of the same village.
Based on the police investigation, Yap was driving the motorcycle when he suddenly swerved and lost control.
Police Lieutenant Rygie Pigar, deputy chief of Ilog Municipal Police Station, reported that the victims then crashed into a steel post of a road barrier.
Pigar speculated that the victims might have been speeding on their way home and swerved due to the slippery road conditions.
Yap struck his head on the steel post, while Cines was thrown off to the roadside, according to Pigar. Both victims were taken to a hospital but were declared dead on arrival.
Earlier that day, the victims had attended a party, but according to their family, they were sober at the time of the accident.
