BACOLOD CITY – Two policemen and a drug suspect were injured after a car plowed into an ongoing buy-bust operation in Barangay Mansilingan late Thursday night.
Police Maj. Elmer Bonilla, head of the Traffic Enforcement Unit (TEU), said anti-drug operatives were conducting a transaction with 23-year-old suspect “Joefer” when a sedan driven by a 55-year-old man suddenly hit them past 10 p.m. before crashing into a tricycle.
The driver reportedly claimed he had dozed off at the wheel, causing him to swerve into the opposite lane and hit the group, Bonilla said.
One police officer is recuperating in a private hospital, while the other sustained minor injuries along with the suspect.
Bonilla confirmed that a charge of reckless imprudence resulting in physical injuries will be filed by one of the injured officers.
The driver is in police custody.
Authorities also seized PHP 136,000 worth of suspected shabu from Joefer during the operation.
