ROXAS CITY, Capiz — Two delegates to the Capiztahan 2026 boxing and mixed martial arts tournament were hospitalized after sustaining injuries during their bouts Tuesday evening at Pueblo de Panay in Barangay Lawaan, Roxas City.
Christian Laurente, a boxing delegate from Ivisan, lost consciousness after absorbing a series of punches from his opponent from Iloilo province.
He was treated by the standby medical team at the venue before being transported to a hospital.
Separately, an MMA fighter from Passi City suffered head and jaw discomfort after his opponent from Roxas City slammed him to the mat.
Capiztahan is the annual founding anniversary celebration of Capiz province, featuring cultural, sports, and trade events.
