BACOLOD City – A 10-year-old boy who suddenly crossed the road was crushed to death by a truck loaded with fertilizer at Barangay Tinampa-an, Cadiz City, Negros Occidental Friday.
Police withheld the name of the victim.
Recounting eyewitness accounts, Police Lieutenant Colonel Robert Mansueto, city police chief, said the child suddenly crossed the road without even checking vehicular traffic.
A truck driven by 36-year-old Allan Burgas towards Sagay City from Bacolod ran over the boy, Mansueto said.
“It was already too late when he (driver) noticed the boy under the vehicle,” he added.
Mansueto said the victim died on the spot.
Burgas was released from police custody the following day after the victim’s family agreed to a settlement.
