BACOLOD CITY – A 35-year-old woman died, and her four-year-old son was injured after a tricycle they were riding was hit by two cars in Barangay Punta Mesa, Manapla, Negros Occidental on Saturday.
Killed in the accident was “Renalyn,” according to the police. Her son sustained minor injuries.
Based on police investigation, the tricycle driven and owned by 57-year-old “Alejandro” of Manapla town, heading towards Victorias City, stopped at the inner lane with its signal light on, when it was hit by a sedan driven by a 33-year-old “Ken” of Calatrava town.
The sedan driver was traveling from Cadiz City to this city when he reportedly failed to see the tricycle and hit the latter. Due to the impact, the tricycle was moved into the inner lane of the opposite direction and was hit by another car driven by 37-year-old Nilo of Victorias City.
“Renalyn” was declared dead in a hospital, a few minutes later.
Some motorists, who happened to pass by the area, posted videos on social media, showing the situation of the passengers on the tricycle after the accident happened.
Both car drivers have been placed under police custody, pending the decision of the victims’ families on the filing of the case.
This followed a motorcycle accident that killed a 25-year-old dance choreographer and criminology graduate after he crashed and was run over by an 18-wheeler truck in Barangay Purisima in the said town on Friday.
Teen hit by stray bullets passed away
A 15-year-old boy, who was hit by stray bullets in a shooting incident that targeted an alleged drug personality in Purok Langis, Barangay Banago here on Wednesday, passed away.
Police Major Rondyl Tapang, head of Police Station 3, confirmed on Saturday the death of the teenage victim in a hospital.
Tapang said the victim, a bystander in a basketball court, sustained two gunshot wounds in the stomach and feet, when a certain “Alvin,” 33, was shot by a lone suspect.
Alvin sustained minor injuries and had been discharged from a hospital a day after the incident, he added.
Tapang said that a misunderstanding allegedly stemming from illegal drugs triggered the attack against Alvin.
He said that Alvin and the suspect were allegedly involved in illegal drugs.
Alvin was previously charged for drug offenses, while the suspect had also a previous case for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, according to Tapang.
Tapang said that the minor’s family is pressing charges against the suspect.
