BACOLOD CITY – An elderly tricycle driver was killed, and his five-year-old grandson was injured after their vehicle collided with a truck loaded with feeds in Barangay Ani-e, Calatrava, Negros Occidental, on Saturday afternoon.
The victim was identified as Sabiniano Amaro, 61, of Barangay Laga-an.
Police Major Wilfredo Benoman Jr., Calatrava police chief, said the truck, driven by a 59-year-old resident of Barangay Bantayanon, was traveling to Barangay Minapasok to deliver the feeds when the tricycle allegedly crossed into the opposite lane, causing the collision.
Benoman noted that it was difficult for the truck driver to swerve due to the heavy load and the area’s terrain near a cliff.
The accident occurred at around 2:30 p.m. while the victims were on their way home.
Amaro was declared dead at the hospital, while his grandson is recovering.
Benoman said the truck driver was unharmed and is in police custody, pending the decision of the victims’ family.
