A tricycle driver died after he drowned while on a family outing at a beach resort in Barangay Baras, Guimbal, Iloilo afternoon of May 1, 2021.
Lieutenant Nelson Caro, Guimbal police chief, identified the victim as Ronald Canhe, 54, a resident of Barangay Talacuan, Leon, Iloilo.
Canhe was allegedly drunk when he went for a swim after lunch. In fact, he had been drinking the night before the incident happened.
Despite that, he still went with the family outing and again drank liquor.
Caro said Canhe was swimming in a shallow portion of the sea with several swimmers nearby.
But after a while, his companions noticed that he went missing, forcing them to dive and search for him.
Caro said Canhe was already unconscious when found around 1:45 p.m. Saturday.
Another beach goer tried to revive him. He was subsequently rushed to Rep. Pedro Trono Memorial District Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
