Tricycle driver, worker nabbed in Capiz drug stings

ROXAS CITY, Capiz—A tricycle driver and a construction worker were arrested Wednesday evening in separate anti-drug operations conducted by police in Roxas City and Panay town.

Police identified the first suspect as Elton Alvarez, also known as Mark Clinton, 28, a tricycle driver and resident of Barangay Punta Tabuc, Roxas City, who was classified as a high-value individual.

Alvarez was arrested late Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 6, during a buy-bust operation conducted by Roxas City police in Barangay Mongpong.

Recovered from Alvarez were five sachets of suspected shabu weighing about 25 grams, with an estimated standard drug price of PHP 170,000, along with several non-drug items.

He is currently under the custody of Roxas City Police Station for proper disposition.

In a separate operation, a construction worker was arrested Wednesday evening, Jan. 6, in a buy-bust operation conducted by Panay police in Barangay Bato, Panay town.

The suspect was identified as alias “Toto,” 32, a resident of Barangay Tanza Sur, Panay, Capiz.

Police recovered nine sachets of suspected shabu valued at PHP 61,200 from the suspect.

He is currently under the custody of the Panay Municipal Police Station.

Both suspects are facing charges for violating Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
