BACOLOD City – A 17-year-old boy was wounded after he was stabbed by a tricycle driver for allegedly stealing the latter’s fighting cocks from his backyard in Sitio Tuyuman, Barangay Caradio-an, Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental last Sunday.
Lieutenant Markelly Laganipa, deputy police chief of Himamaylan City Police Station, said the suspect, whose name was withheld, was caught in the act by 33-year-old Regie Castino while he was watching his fighting cocks.
Castino chased the suspect and caught up with him. Castino allegedly stabbed the teenage suspect twice out of anger, Laganipa said.
“Ang tag-iya na offend gid bala guro, kay harap-harapan gin kuha ang manok, then out of anger napatup-an niya gid,” Laganipa said.
The suspect managed to escape to the sugarcane plantation, but he was later caught by the victim’s neighbor.
Police recovered from the suspect a backpack containing the two stolen fighting cocks worth P2,500 each.
The suspect was taken to Gov. Valeriano Gatuslao Memorial Hospital in the city and is now under hospital arrest.
Laganipa said that eight fighting cocks of the victim were also previously reported stolen. He, however, could not ascertain if the same suspect was behind it.
“Amo gid to na aktuhan niya,” he added.
Laganipa said that both parties already had an initial settlement.
